I want to buy an eee pc. i just wanted to know if anyone has heard anything about a new model coming out. what about the rival tiny pc’s? will any of the rivals ahve a SSD? cause if not im going for the eee pc.
So, what are the differences involving laptop computers and netbooks? A laptop computer is a transportable computer, featuring a screen connected to a keyboard. A notebook includes a battery for transportable potential and a touchpad instead of a mouse for feedback.
Mini netbook computers take these creative concepts further still, creating a new market above handheld computers, smartphones and personal digital assistants. The primary characteristic of these are smaller size and weight, which are pretty similar to the average journal, as well as costing less than a regular laptop computer with prices starting at around $250, an excellent solution during the credit crunch!
Mini netbook computers aren’t as ultra powerful as larger laptop computers, and lack the energy for big, demanding programs as well as an optical disc drive – hence no CDs or DVDs. None the less, connectivity is a central focus for netbook computers. Internet downloads are quickly catching up on hard media products, so perhaps it’s not such a loss.
In short, the difference concerning notebook and netbooks are smaller, lighter, more affordable and easier to tote around.
Mini netbook computers are projected to be huge sellers in the coming years. Industry analysts are divided whether or not smaller notebooks will take over the laptop market, some suggesting that a mere 10% marketplace share will be taken. However, in this economic downturn, people will always look for less expensive products and with mini laptops available $250 – $350, perhaps there is a big demand after all.
So is it game over for the regular notebook and pc? Unlikely; whilst mini laptops can perform dozens of tasks to identical or similar standard of larger computers, they will (for the time being) be limited by battery size, processing potential and storage space, the difference involving notebook and netbook is pronounced enough not to make the former obsolete.
Furthermore, when using a computer over a prolonged period of time, it would make sense to use a larger screen and a faster processor of a desktop replacement notebook or a PC, particularly for demanding programs’ such as games.
At the opposite end of the spectrum, cell phone makers and providers are beginning to tap into the netbook demand with the Samsung NC10, LG X110. Vodafone has partnered with Dell with its Inspiron Mini 9, offering 3G mobile broadband contracts.
The difference involving laptops and netbooks may seem very vague, but there is certainly room for demand for both types of portable computers.

Just got this mini netbook today. This is my personal 1st one. I determined to go with Asus because of selling price, design and feedback of users on internet. Though I read some users said that it has charger trouble or other issue, so far so good. I will bring up to date this later.
I looked at netbooks and small notebook computers for above a month, and I probably spent more time than is fair or sane on the entire undertaking – basically because I wanted to be able to journey lighter than before, and have a laptop that could still do most of what I require.
And so my key concerns when acquiring a low powered netbook were about it’s potential to play back video effortlessly. It plays avi files flawlessly for watching movies. streams from youtube very well. Things shot on my videocamera play decently in 720p, but it cant deal with 1080p. Battery is nice but be very careful to charge it a least 8 hours before turning it on, i made this mistake and it stunted the battery lifetime to about 7 hours, which is also good.
Lastly, I delighted with the overall speed, and got used to the small screen and keyboard fairly quick, i’m typing on it now! Wonderful little laptop.

I’ve been using a small utility called eee-control on my Asus Eee PC 901 battery netbook with Ubuntu. eee-control lets you take control of the hardware on Eee PCs. Some of these controls, like the performance modes, were easily accessible in the default Asus Linux distribution but not from Ubuntu. Extend Eee PC laptop Battery Life with eee-control It includes:
on/off toggles for the wifi and bluetooth radios, the camera, and the SD card reader
front-side bus performance modes including over and under clocking
sensor readings for temperature, fan level, and fan RPM

I would absolutely recommend eee-control to anyone using Linux on an Eee PC. Be sure to turn on the smart fan control feature because with it my system is much quieter and even silent at times. By turning off the wireless radios and using powersave mode I can now push my Eee PC 901 to six hours of battery life by using the method Extend PC Battery Life with eee-control.
Installing eee-control on Ubuntu is easy. Download and install the latest deb package provided by the author of eee-control likeontrol. Reboot so that the eee-control daemon can be started.
