Skype 2.0 Webcam Chat on eeepc
Please excuse my voice and odor I was Very sick and very bored… This is a short demo of Skype 2.0 working on the eeepc. Once again my distro is the stock Xandros running a custom 2gb Kernel called fmlinuz. I was extremely impressed with the quality of both the audio and the streaming video on my pc from the eee. The webcam works much better than I imagined it could. Once again I used to separate accounts to call myself, no funny business I assure you. I do believe that for the webcam to work with Skype, you need to update to 2.0 beta. If you are in Easy Mode, that is easily done by going to the Add/Remove Programs utility following the steps there, it will pop up with the stock repositories. If you’re in advanced mode, I shouldn’t have to tell you to sudo apt-get upgrade skype. Thanks again and have fun!

Cute little machines. I want one! I wish they’d give ‘em touch-screens though. Was hoping the the 2nd generation would get ‘em; but, alas. Maybe next wave.
Nice little demo.
I recommend parking the camera on a tripod, though.

what kind of camera are you using to record the video with?

hello. i also have an asus eeepc. i initially had the same problems but all it is the settings in the bios screen. you have to hit F2 and enable your webcam. make sure you save your settings. then go to skype and go to your settings there and test your webcam out. it should be fine then.

No, id love to but I don’t have webcam for my pc. I’m sure the eee will handle it without a hitch, it’s taken everything I’ve thrown at it without a stutter.

Have you tested dual webcam (both sending vid from the eeepc and receiving video from your other machine displayed on the eeepc)?

thanks for posting this peppaz! I just bought an eeepc (I’m using it now), and it’s really good, but when I use skype I can get the webcam to come up for skype. The webcam does work, however, but I can’t locate it when I am logged into and using skype. Any suggestions?
