Should i buy the Asus EEE PC??
I’m a student and i got a Dell Inspiron 1501 and i really like hte eee pc. This laptop i got now is too thick and i think i might want a smaller laptop. Would 7 inch be to small?? Will i be able to read my word documents??? I also have music that i was on the eee pc and i do download alot of stuff. If i buy should i use linux or xp?? I will need about 4gigs’ of storage for my stuff. Is this the right laptop for me??

Depends. I had the opportunity to play with the Asus computer and it really is cool. It all depends on what you will be doing with it. It comes with Open Office, which is similar to word/excel, etc. It also supports wireless. You can add an external USB drive for more space if you need it. If your needs require using Windows as an OS, then you’d better stick with the Dell, but if you can get by in the Linux world, then I’d say, go for it. Comes in really cool colors too.

limit storage on the eee.
small screen on the eee.
I think the screen will be too small for word processing and the things only have 4/8 storage,
I personally think the eee as a large PDA, and not a small laptop. That’s my 2 cents.

If you look around, you see where this laptop has been hack (or modified) to include additional 16 GB of memory for a total of 20 GB for a solid state harddrive(if you will). Linux is neat and, rock solid..NO BLUE screen as long as you don’t get crazy. It does come with XP should you want to put it on but..REALLY??
Warranty is for 3years~! on nearly everything~ Listen, if you buy one and, don’t like it..I am sure that there will be tonz of ppl will take off ur hands~Get involved, join a few of the forums on it and be ready to be surprised~I have encluded a website that shows alot of that activity~
The O/S installed is Linux and, the puter comes fully loaded. Other have installed Win XP and, Vista as well on this puter, so you do have choices. The hardwares that are not included but can be added as needed via USB ports. That’s the good thing.
I have on my laptop all of the hardware but, to be honest, you really don’t use em all that much. It’s nice to have em available when you do and, I see that being the same with this one.
Two items I see being required are the external CD player and, depending on your situation, the external modem for dial-up.
Again, the 3 yr warranty on everything is unheard of…Atleast, I know of no company that does this. You could use flash drives for extra memory as well via USB port..hmmm
Good Luck~

you will be trading off a lot of functionality with an eee because they are designed for a specific price/portability market niche. they only have small screens, they have no dvd drive, and their storage is very low (compare with 40gig for a low-end laptop).
linux is ok if you are technically-minded. if you are not, then xp is a better os because its a lot easier to use, especially if thats what you are used to.
personally I would only consider one if I needed an ultraportable. you lose out on so many features of a full-size machine to me the only advantage is the ‘pocketability’ of it. seems to me if this isn’t the reason for buying it then there’s a lot you’ll miss out on. Bear in mind that the processor is under a ghz and only single core and that the ram is only half a gig. They are not very upgradeable and will never in their current state be suitable for running vista.
Don’t think of this as a replacement laptop as its not really the same class of machine. its an ultraportable – you gain in portability but miss out on pretty much everything else.

I have the asus eee and I like it, even though it is very small I don’t have many problems with the screen size but if storage space is a big factor for you, you may want to look at some other options unless you don’t mind having an external portable hard drive or usb flash drives, etc. It is very limited in space. But I loaded WindowsXp and Office on it with some other useful programs so I store documents and music on an sd card. Also if you like the whole sleek and small factor of the asus consider the Everex “cloudbook” that should come out this month. It’s same size but it’s 30G instead of 4 or 8 like the asus. And it costs the same.
