Asus Eeepc?

Hi, I am considering buying the Asus eeePC for college, instead of having to take my main notebook (which will remain so) everywhere with me. I was wondering about some issues with it though:
# Will I be able to connect to wireless networks? (esp. Starbucks lol)
# Can it run blender?
# What is it’s compatibility like with hardware? I was thinking of things like my camera, a bar code scanner (for a software project I’m working on)
# Are there any better alternatives? I just need it for stuff like typing whilst at college, accessing sites while at college (e.g. in the library) and putting photos and music on (I have a Casio Exilm and an iPod)
What do you think of the Asus eeePC? Should I go for something different? I need it to be cheap(ish) at no more than £300 and quite lightweight.
Thanks,
Sophie

    Wireless networks – yes
Blender – possibly, but it is not a powerful machine, and the screen is a lot smaller then Blender is comfortable with.
Hardware – same as any Linux. Cameras and bar code scanners will work fine if they use standard interfaces, and will probably be fine otherwise. The more obscure the hardware, the less likely it is to work.
If you want cheap and lightweight, it is pretty much impossible to beat.

I have an Asus Eee and a larger laptop. The Asus I use to travel and to get email when away from home. It is limited with only 4g harddrive.Remembrt 3g is taken up with XP operating system. Don’t get Linux installed, XP is best. We cut XP down so it takes up only 2.5G HD space. The wireless connection is good
Compatability is good but it is what it is and limited in use. It’s great for email and surfing the net and maybe writing letters if you install Word. You will need a 4g flashdrive for storage if you want to load pics. It has no CD drive either.
Its a nice toy to have I love it

It runs the Xandros distribution of Linux so you’ll have to search online for compatible drivers if you run into any problems. I like the way you’ve figured out why you need it and how you intend to use it – at your price point and for your requirements – convenience and portability – it is pretty much unbeatable. If you can possibly hold out a while, the word is a XP version will be shipping soon but no doubt it will be more expensive.http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2008/01/23/…http://jkontherun.blogs.com/jkontherun/2…
